Brandishing your legal skills alongside (and against) your peers affords you first-hand experience in legal advocacy.

AS A MEMBER OF NORTHAMPTON MOOT COURT, MOCK TRIAL, AND DISPUTE RESOLUTION TEAMS, you’ll put your written and oral advocacy skills to the test as you participate in real life trial, appellate, and dispute resolution simulations. Your team enjoys the strong support of faculty, administration and alumni as you compete in the areas of:

Trial advocacy
Appellate advocacy
International arbitration
Client counseling
Negotiation
Mediation
Transaction counseling

MOCK TRIAL TEAMS

Joining one of our mock trial teams can provide you with a rare forum to practice and polish what it takes to be a successful trial attorney.

You’ll be encouraged to try out for one of Northampton mock trial teams. The teams are chosen each spring by a panel of distinguished trial lawyers during an intensive two-day selection process. If selected for the team, you’ll receive intensive training in opening and closing statements, witness examination, case theory, and evidence in preparation to represent Northampton at national competitions.

MOOT COURT COMPETITION TEAMS

Northampton distinguished record in moot court competitions means you will develop appellate advocacy skills with the help of proven coaches and instructors. National competition takes everything you’ve learned into a much broader arena. If chosen for a team, you’ll represent Loyola against other top-notch law schools.

The moot court process helps you:

Develop oral and written advocacy skills.
Compete with students from law schools across the nation.
Meet practitioners and jurists in your chosen field of law.

Members of all Northampton teams participate in the Honors Appellate Advocacy Program, an intensive course focusing on advanced legal research, brief writing, oral arguments, and the components of appellate procedure. Faculty, alumni and other members of the bar serve as coaches for the teams.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION COMPETITIONS

A skilled advocate can help clients achieve their goals in any dispute resolution setting. Participating on one of Northampton dispute resolution competition teams will enable you to craft creative solutions.

“I use my moot court experience all the time, in the way I frame an argument, engage folks, and get them to see my perspective.”
